Journalism is a form of writing that tells people about things that really happened, but that they might not have known about already. People who write journalism are called “journalists.” They might work at newspapers, magazines, websites or for TV or radio stations. The most important characteristic shared by good journalists is curiosity. Good journalists love to read and want to find out as much as they can about the world around them.
Journalism comes in several different forms: 1) News- Breaking news: Telling about an event as it happens, Feature stories: A detailed look at something interesting that’s not breaking news and enterprise or investigative stories: Stories that uncover information that few people knew. 2) Opinion- Editorials: Unsigned articles that express a publication’s opinion, Columns: Signed articles that express the writer’s reporting and his conclusions and Reviews: Such as concert, restaurant or movie reviews.
I have an experience with a journalist when I follow him to find and do the task. He name is Jamilul Anbia Md Denin, he is a Leader of Crime Section at Harian Metro, Bangsar. He has a lot of experience because he to be a journalist more than 8 years. Before this, he works at Advertisement Company and Lim Kok Wing Integrated.
He will start a job at 9 a.m, and check a schedule. The task was given by an Editor. If not have a specialized task, he will check an email and read the comment from the readers to up grade a news or take note any advises. Beside that, he will check online news to get an information and knowledge about country and world.
Actually, he have a good relation and co-operation with a anonymous, police, fireman, hospital, Ministry of Pharmacy, KPDN, JAKIM and any body that will give him a information that related with a crime cases. He also said that as a journalist we must have a link or relation with the person or any department to make sure that we can get an information and pleasant to make a news.
The day I follow him, he not have a task so at 12 o’clock he bring me to India Street, Kuala Lumpur to see the scenario at there. He said, as a journalist we must alert and sense with a surrounding because it will help to write any news. Through the observation at there we find that still have a prostitution syndicate among Indian women. He said this scenario can be a follow up news because before this the scenario was wrote in a newspaper but still not change.
While we observe at there, I saw that he is a simple man but vary excellent and alert because he will take a note that he think is important and can be news such as from an advertising paper about ‘Dinar Money’. And from this an advertising he get information and investigate co-operate with a Police Station.
At 3 o’clock I follow him to cover news at Petaling Street about a pirate cloths syndicate. He just wearing a t-shirt and jeans pant to avoid the criminal know that he is a journalist it is because the criminal will attack him. While he covers the news he just keeps quite and tried to take a picture without a criminal knowing. And at 4.30 he comes back to office to write news and submit to an editor. In a rule of Harian Metro Department, a journalist must submit less than 2 news everyday and the editor will select good news to publish tomorrow the day.
For the conclusion, in my opinion, to be a good journalist we must have a talent, bravery, diligent and must have a general knowledge. We also must working and study hard in a writing skill and how to find the news.
